Growing
up in a northern suburb of Detroit, Michigan, I had a
passion and a desire. I didn’t know it yet, but I began
pursuing my passion at age five when I started piano
lessons. Throughout junior high and high school, I was a
good student and wanted to learn how things worked –
especially the body, which directed me to my desire of
medicine. I began my dual education at Alma College (go
Scots!) in Alma, Michigan, where I studied pre-med, all the
while participating in every musical activity possible,
including theater. After five years, I received a
bachelor’s degree in Biology, and another in Piano
Performance.
After graduation, I moved away from Michigan to live in the
much warmer climate of Atlanta, Georgia. Here I attended
the Master’s Program in Anesthesiology and Patient
Monitoring Systems at Emory University. I graduated in 1997
as a Physician’s Assistant in Anesthesia, also called
Anesthesiologist’s Assistant. My first employment
opportunity was at Piedmont hospital, where I stayed for
four years. I missed academics and pediatrics, so I left
and went back to Emory, where I split a shift between Emory
hospital and Egleston Children’s hospital for another two
years. At this point, the opportunity arose for me to join
the ESA family and work closer to home. I have been
employed here ever since 2004, and I am still able to
perform some pediatric anesthesia here, as well as keeping
up my OB skills.
I currently live in Alpharetta with my husband Brian and
our two dogs. I have been keeping my passion for music
alive by participating in my church praise band and
returning to musical theater, and I have also developed a
new interest in tennis since I’ve been married.
