Sidney Simpkins, M.D.
I was
born in Columbus, Georgia, but grew up in a small town in
the Mississippi Delta. I received my B. S. Degree from
Millsaps College and my M.D. Degree from the University of
Mississippi. I completed my medical internship at Baptist
Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. My Anesthesiology
Residency was completed at Emory here in Atlanta. After a
stint in the Navy in Jacksonville, Florida and Millington,
Tennessee, I joined the anesthesia staff of Baptist
Memorial Hospital in Memphis in 1976. While at Baptist, I
began the Department of Obstetrical Anesthesia.
In 1979, I was chosen to head the Department of Anesthesia
at Baptist Hospital East in Memphis. In 1983, We moved back
to Atlanta and I joined the Anesthesia Department at
Shallowford Community Hospital in Dunwoody, Georgia. I have
practiced there and our other locations for 23 years.
My goal is for each patient to get the best possible
anesthetic care. I am particularly interested in outpatient
anesthesia.
My lovely wife Linda, a former Nurse Anesthetist and I have
two children and are eagerly anticipating the birth of our
first grandson in August. My hobbies include woodworking,
photography and computer science.
